Thoroughbred Racing Mogul Marc Gunderson’s Strategic Moves at Keeneland September Sale
Marc Gunderson's active presence at the Keeneland September sale has made waves in the world of Thoroughbred racing. Alongside his team at Twin Oaks Bloodstock, Gunderson has strategically navigated the auction, making significant purchases and outlining his vision for the future of his racing projects. With a keen eye for quality, Gunderson and MWG, LLC have acquired 21 yearlings for a total of $8,545,000 through the initial sessions of the 12-day auction. Leading the acquisitions were a City of Light half-sister to Vahva bought for $850,000 and a colt by Justify secured for $800,000. The flurry of purchases underlines Gunderson's deliberate approach to assembling a competitive and diversified portfolio. Speaking about his buying strategy, Gunderson revealed a two-pronged plan. “We wanted 12 top-end, high-quality competitive yearlings,” he shared. “Additionally, we aimed to acquire precocious pinhooks with the potential for resale in the 2-year-old sales market. This strategy involves a mix of fillies and colts, focusing notably on fillies, with a total of 15 fillies and six colts making up our current acquisitions.”
